THE EIGHTH DOCTOR: PAUL McGANN: 1996
Apart form a few specials here and there, in the 1990s there was one serious attempt at relaunching the Dr. Who franchise back to television. This time the BBC was going to team up with the American network produce it in Vancouver Canada. The series for FOX was never picked up, but the visually cool telemove of the pilot “The Enemy Within” made it to air in both countries in 1996. Sylverster McCoy was brought back to give his official had over of the TARDIS key to Paul McGann. (more…)
More then just a Timelord

Well, kids here we are, the end of eighties. We are also marking an end of an era! This is the final seasons of the regular BBC run of the Dr. Who television serial series. But what we do have here is one of the strongest ever DW team ups in all of it’s history. The Doctor 7 and Ace. The new season though starts off with a bang as The TARDIS make it’s return to 1963 London to face a new invasion by non other than Davros and the Daleks! The Cyberbmen come out to celebrate his 25th Anniversary and the return of the Brigader..oh it just doesn’t stop.
To bad the network higher up felt that who franchise and series was played out. Remember the had tried to shut it down just a few years before. The was no proper end for the current team… It was just not brought back. It would have a very sparse life in the following decade.
NEXT TIME…

The Seventh Doctor: Sylvester McCoy: 1987-1989.

Spotlight: “Time and The Rani” (1987)
Spotlight: “Dragonfire” (1987)

Starting fresh and new again, Producer JNT seeks out the next direction and finds it in Sylvester McCoy. This is the little dude with the white hat and umbrella. He is also remmensent of the 2nd Doctor in build and personality. The first season is a very rocky one. But please bare with it, it’ll get much better in the following season, with Ace as his assistant. I’ll cover those separately.

You gotta low points to have high points, right? So here we are in the middle of the 1980′s with nowhere to run! I’m not saying the Colin Baker era was bad, but it’s not the hay day of the 70′s either. This is a netorious era for Whovians. The cosmic- electro-techno-dream-coat, arrogant persona and fluffy fro. There was also alot of turmol going on behind the sceans as well. Colin Baker was cast.. could it have had something to do with his last name.. to accociate with Tom Baker? That I don’t know. (and no there are not related.)
Nicola Bryant as companion Peri Brown was dealing with all kinds of critisism too.. from being too sexy, to to annoying.. to faking to everybody that she was not really American for the first year. The head of BBC even canceled the series. The allows it to be revived as “The Trial of The Timelord” . That didn’t help Colin, as after that season the BBC head just fires him. (oh, and the prick was sleeping with Colin’s wife!!)
There are some interesting gyms here, worth the time to check out.. It IS Doctor Who, you know.
