Classic DOCTOR WHO, Part 17

Sketchy ’90’s

THE EIGHTH DOCTOR: PAUL McGANN: 1996

A4 Paul McgannThe Eighth Doctor Wiki.

Apart form a few specials here and there, in the 1990s there was one serious attempt at relaunching the Dr. Who franchise back to television. This time the BBC was going to team up with the American network produce it in Vancouver Canada. The series for FOX was never picked up, but the visually cool telemove of the pilot “The Enemy Within” made it to air in both countries in 1996. Sylverster McCoy was brought back to give his official had over of the TARDIS key to Paul McGann.
It’s more or less a premature revamp/relaunch to what would come when BBC takes the licensing back in 2005. All in all the TV Movie is.. ok. Eric Roberts (who I had always like up until this) kills it though, as his incarnation of The Master. So yeah, it’s a good try.. no cigar.. it’s a precursor to some things in the designs and the more romantic qualities that the future series would see.

McGann would keep his Doctor status up until the Russtle T. Davis relaunch, by performing in audio produce adventures. The “Big Finish” CD series is considered the some of the bast stories out there, not only from McGann but by other former Doctors as well. (Colin Baker’s stories are spoken of very hight, FYI.)

Extras:

“DIMENSIONS IN TIME” (1993) The half-assed 30th Anniversery reunion special, was part of the “Childeren in Need” telephon.

“THE CURSE OF THE FATAL DEATH” (1999) Starring Rowan Atkinson. This is a great Dr. Who parody. Part of the BBC “Comic Relief”.
